Hi! I'm Louie and I would LOVE to come live with you! I'm a very low energy, loving boy.

ERU believes I am about 7 or 8 years old.  When ERU rescued me, I was in really bad shape. I had a horrible flea infestation and 3/4 of my body had to be shaved and treated. When foster Mom got me, she called me her little lion, since I had my mane on the front and short hair on the back. My hair is growing out nicely now. I had a really badly impacted ear that burst my eardrum and was mostly deaf. The vet said I may get some hearing back and foster Mom thinks she doesn't have to yell as loudly now for me to hear, but I still can't hear soft voices. I have heartworms, but have finished my doxy treatment and now just need my monthly heartworm prevention. I don't even realize when I get pills, cause foster Mom wraps them up in food and I gobble them right up! Yum!

My back legs didn't have a lot of muscle, probably due to being crated or something for a long time. Foster Mom takes me on long walks with my foster brother and I'm getting strength back now. I don't jump up on furniture, since I don't trust my back legs yet. I got really excited once recently and jumped up in foster Mom's lap on the couch. I think I was as surprised as she was! I love sleeping in the bed, but foster Mom has to pick up me up for that. I would be happy to just lay next to your bed if you prefer. I just want to be close to my person.

When I first came to live with my foster Mom and foster brother, I didn't understand about not going potty in the house. I followed my foster brother's lead pretty quickly though, and now I understand. I can't hold it a long time though, so foster Mom uses a belly band when she has to leave me for longer than a couple of hours. I'm a good boy and let her put it on me, although I don't really like it.  Also, I don't like to be left alone for real long periods of time.  I like my human to be home with me, to make me feel safe :-)  I've gotten better in my foster home, so that may lessen with time.   I can be crated, but prefer to be out.

Foster Mom has taken me to daycare and to overnight sleepovers at the dog sitter's house with my foster brother. I like the other dogs just fine. I always pick a person to love on, though. I like people better than dogs. I've only been around one child since I came to live with foster Mom, but I did fine. I don't really care much about playing (occasionally I chase a small ball that my foster brother lets me borrow). I would probably do better in a home without really small children. I'm very submissive, which is good since foster brother is an Alpha male. He's the boss!

I walk great on a leash and don't pull at all. I would be perfect for a senior person who will just love me, but I can be happy anywhere, as long as I get love.

Could you love me? Yes? Then please let me come live with you. I really am a wonderful, loving boy :-)  Pretty please!

Special Needs: Louie is being treated for heartworms with the gentle kill method March 10, 2016 - tested negative!

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
