***Update  - Hi everyone!  It has been a long time and I wanted everyone to know how GREAT I have been doing!  Things have calmed down and I have been soaking up the love this past year!  I just can't get enough!!  I'm about to go back to the vet soon to have my HeartWorm test done and I am really hoping to catch a break and have it come back negative!  Once it does come back negative, I'll be finally ready to have my hip surgery.  I'm really anxious to have that done as my hips still give me a lot of pain...especially when I try to go up the stairs.  So keep me in mind and if you can possibly help with the cost of my surgery, I would really appreciate it.  I'm ready to have my health back and not feel any more pain!  Thanks!  Max

**Update 1/8/09 - As if my life hasn't had enough hard times! I just saw the vet and they found out that I have severe hip dysplasia on both hips. I knew my hips hurt, especially when I get up! The best treatment method to help me out would be surgery to fix my hips, but that costs lots of money. If you would help me with this cost, I would be eternally grateful!**

Hi, my name is Max. It's a new name for me to go with my new life! In my short life, I haven't been treated very well. My former owners put me outside and never thought of me or interacted with me at all! One thing you should know about me is that about me is I LOVE people and am just dying for some loving attention!

Like I said, I was left outside with no attention or vet checks. I was taken to this place called a shelter, and I actually thought it was a great place since people actually paid attention to me! But when I was turned over to the shelter, I had a wicked case of fleas and had pretty much scratched much of my body up so badly that I lost fur and had lots of scabs. Thankfully, I've been treated for that and am happy to say that I am flea -free! And my hair is starting to grow back. I know I don't look very pretty right now, but I'm improving!

Unfortunately, when I was taken to be neutered, they found that I am Heartworm positive. Now, don't let that scare you! It's a mild case and I am being treated with the "slow kill" method of HW treatment - which is 30 days of antibiotic and then a year of monthly HW preventive. And the rescue supplies the HW pills for the year. I am not showing any symptoms and am full of energy and so happy to be in rescue! I was in rough shape, but I'm being treated and am getting better all the time!

Before I was taken into rescue, one of the nice shelter ladies took special care of me and she says I'm an absolute doll! She took me home and found out that I am great with other dogs and cats. I've also been around children and like them as well. I'm just an all around easy-to-get along with kind of guy!

So here's my greatest wish...I want to find a family that loves me and will pay attention to me - and I'll give you LOTS of love back! I'm ready to be spoiled and get to know some of the fun things in life...like rawhide bones! I know I don't look the best right now, but hopefully you'll look beyond that and see my sweet face and my adorable eyes. The fur will grow back! Will you please consider me to be your best friend?

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
