Hi everyone, my name is Scrappy. I am a 7 year old Eskie in need of a new home. My family is going into a retirement home and I cant go along. They are very sad to see me go and want to make sure I have a wonderful home for the rest of my life too. Yesterday a couple of ladies came to see me and this is what they had to say: SCRAPPY is a 7 year old American Eskimo dog, neutered, UTD with vaccines and reportedly has received regular flea treatments (and appears to be free of fleas). They thought he weighed 35 lbs...we would say more like 40 or a little more. He could lose a few pounds and he's due for grooming. He is housetrained, sleeps in his crate w/o shutting the door, rides well in a car, gets along with children and other dogs. He needs rehomed because his owners are moving into a senior housing apartment and Scrappy is too much to handle in this next phase of their life. They are sad to give him up as he is clearly an important part of their lives. We experienced Scrappy being friendly, likes lots of pets, touching face, paws all OK, he accepted both of us quickly when we came into the house though he is a barker at the door. He stopped barking as soon as he smelled us. He is also a barker when you want to leave and he nipped a little at my pants leg trying to make me stay. He goes out on a leash or on a tie out back (supervised, not left to live outside at all!). He doesn't like loud kids or people who rush up to him and get real close without getting to know him. No bites or inappropriate behaviors but they have a 6 year old very active boy across the street whom Scrappy doesn't like due to his bike, his loudness, his high activity level and his coming over and grabbing Scrappy for a hug. We weren't clear on how Scrappy responds to the loud boy but probably barking. Owners report he settles down if they leave him at home and they claim he doesn't bark when they are gone (they have some close neighbors) but he clearly barks when someone comes to the door or wants to leave. He sees cats in the neighborhood and might bark at them but doesn't try to chase them. They report he doesn't interact much with babies or very young children, tends to check them out when they come in but then leave them alone. We are guessing he has had limited social interactions outside of his immediate family and his immediate house. He is a dog with routines that follow his owners whom he is clearly attached to in a good way. He has nice looking, clean teeth and clean ears. Scrappy is extreamly overweigh and needs someone to help him lose some weight.
