Hi, I’m Bailey, but my foster parents call me Bailey Boo because they say I’m so cute and gentle!

I’m 18 months young. I came from a puppy mill that seized over 150 dogs in South Carolina, but now I’m living the good life in North Carolina with my foster parents and 3 other dogs. I love other dogs! Coming from a puppy mill, I’m still working on trusting people, but I am coming along very quickly. We have chickens here too and while I was very good with them, I did chase them one day. Now mom keeps me on a leash when we are all out in the yard together.

I weigh 19 lbs, but I’m a short compact fellow. I’m not overweight, just compact. I’m a short standard size.

I need someone who will be patient with me. I like to be petted, but I’m just now seeing how much fun couch time can be and I am still hesitant to stay for long. My foster mom thinks I had never seen steps, a mirror or leash before coming to live here, but it’s only been a little while and I am adapting well.

Foster dad spent 2.5 hours with me in the yard the first day to get used to the leash and I walk without pulling, but sometimes I get scared and stop. With encouragement I’ll keep walking though. I just need more practice.

I don’t have any food aggression and am currently being half hand fed and half bowl fed for meals to make sure I don’t develop any issues and to build confidence with humans.

I’m pretty quiet so far, but if I see something or think I see something out the ordinary, I’ll let you know with a very cute "barooo roo roo".

I’m submissive and sensitive. A strong handed approach is not going to get anywhere with me. I need a soft voice and time. I’m not an alpha dog at all, but get along with them great.

So far my favorite thing to do is come up to you and offer a paw! Ok, well maybe I enjoy playing with my foster brother more. We like to have a few good and lively wrestles a day. Did I mention I love dogs?!

My foster mom lets me outside a lot because she’s home and she says I’m 95% house trained.

I’ve never chewed on anything that wasn’t given to me, but so far my favorite toys are rope toys to chew.

Foster mom doesn’t think I’d do well with children, as it takes a calm slow touch to make me comfortable.  It doesn’t have to be very slow hand, just no poking or intense hugging that children so often do. I’ll back off fast if I get uneasy. Actually, I go the opposite direction if I think all attention is on me. I’m just warming up to the idea that people are kind.

Other than a small ear infection that’s being treated, I’m in tip top shape. My eyes have tear stains, but after a short time with care and good nutrition they are improving nicely.

I sleep in a crate, but don’t visit it much during the day, I’d much rather follow my foster parents around! When they are gone, I’m in a crate too.

If you have some extra patience and time, my foster family would love to talk to you about giving me a forever home. All I’m asking for is a second chance for the life I deserve.

Good with Dogs

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
