Woof! My name is Punkin! That's cuz I'm so sweet and cute and I have a little pumpkin hue to my coat. My foster mommy calls me her "Lil' Punkin." :o) I'm a toy- or miniature-sized American Eskimo female who stands 13 inches tall and weighs 15 pounds. Considering the color of my beautiful coat, I might have a dash of Pomeranian in me. The human that had me before said I was 6 years old (though I act like I'm only 3!), but the vet thinks I might be a bit older, more like 8 or 10 because my eyes are showing signs of cataracts. So who knows? My foster mommy thinks I'm younger and that I still have lots of fun and spunkiness left in my little self. Don't let a number like that keep you from me, because I'm still VERY active. I love to zoom around, play fetch, chase the ball and throw it in the air, and act all silly and stuff. I love to roll around in my bedding and on the rugs. (They feel so nice and soft!) I'm spayed, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I ride well in the car, I'm good on the leash and love to take walks. I don't need a big yard and am perfect for someone who doesn't have a fenced-in yard. I'm really friendly with other dogs, and with people too. We're not sure about cats, but since I'm so easy-going (not to mention that most cats are bigger than I am! He! He!), that shouldn't be a problem. I came into rescue with my friend and companion, Rustie, who just got adopted. I'll miss him a lot, but I'm happy for him, because now he's in his very own forever home. But now it's MY turn! Our previous humans didn't take very good care of us. We were locked in a crate all the time. As you can see from one of my pictures, I should have a beautiful fluffy coat, but under that top layer I had terrible matting, which made it hard for me to walk or even wag my tail--I was SO uncomfortable! My foster mom gave me a funky brush cut and now I can move around and wag, wag, wag my cute little tushy and tail! And I get to sport some spiffy outfits too! When my hair grows back, I'll be luscious and beautiful again, but don't you think I'm cute as a button right now? My teeth were in really bad shape. They were so full of nasty tartar from neglect that when the vet was doing my cleaning, a lot of them fell out! So now I'm missing a bunch, but I can still eat just fine with the ones I still have. My new owner will need to make sure to take care of my teeth and get regular cleanings for me, so I don't lose any more. (Small dogs like me can be prone to dental issues, but with a little preventive care I shouldn't have any more problems.) I do have this quirky little thing I do which I think is cute, though my foster parents are helping me tone it down: I don't like when people leave, and I let them know it by pouncing at them and barking, as if to say, "Don't go!" My foster parents tell me that's not nice to do and that some people might find it a little annoying. My new family will need to reinforce a few doggie manners with me. I'm trying to learn "sit" and "come" when I'm called and I'm actually doing really well, especially for an older gal who has never had any training before. I'm such a wee thing that you won't notice that I don't have leash skills yet - I'm really improving and love to go for walkies! So far, I'm showing that I'm housetrained. I'll probably need some supervision though, and I do quite well when left on my own if I'm pet-gated in a carpet-free zone. I'm not a chewer and I don't destroy things - give me my own toys, bed, food and water bowls and I will make my own little "Happyville." I wag my little tail when you come home and if you pet my tail, it will wrap around your finger just like a monkey! I don't mind being groomed, and when my fur coat grows back you'll need to brush me regularly to keep it fluffy and pretty, and not all matted up like it was before. I'll need you to give me manicures too, because it was hard to walk on my little paws when the nails curled in like they used to. As you can see, I'm a real cutie-patootie with lots of spunk, and my foster parents are so sweet on me! :o) They'd love to see me go to a forever home that will care for me like they do and give me lots of love. Wouldn't you like to become my new forever and ever family? If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Liz at: liz@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy and daddy directly at: kim@eskierescuersunited.org. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with my foster mommy and daddy, Kim and Jeff. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! and#9829;Punkinand#9829;
