Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Purdy! I'm a 7-year old toy-sized American Eskimo female who weighs a whopping 9 pounds! I was very malnourished and neglected in my previous life, and my foster mommy had to shave me down, because no one had ever brushed my beautiful long hair and it got badly matted. It's now starting to grow out very silky and pretty. I'm buff/biscuit-colored on top, but more white on my underside. I enjoy being brushed now, because it means someone loves me! I'm spayed, current on all my shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I'm housebroken and am currently learning how to walk on a leash. Because I was so poorly cared for previously, my teeth were in bad shape. I now only have my four canines left, but no other teeth. I can eat regular dry dog food just fine, but I can't chew on those yummy rawhide treats. :o( I get along really well with other dogs, and I'm so easy-going that my foster mommy thinks I'd be fine with cats too. I'm very good with my human foster brother who is almost 4 years old (he is very gentle with me), but active and rambunctious kids might scare me, so I would prefer to be in a quieter home. I like sleeping with my human foster brother, who gives me lots of kisses. That really makes me feel SO special! I'm a very quiet little girl, so sweet and loving. I just love being held and petted, something I probably never had before. But as you can see from my pictures, I finally have the chance to bloom and shine! Wouldn't you like to have me in your life and give me a chance at a wonderful new life? I will make such a great friend and companion, and I've got so much love and affection to share with you! If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Liz at: liz@eskierescuersunited.org. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me. There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Crestview, FL with my foster mommy, Ana. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! Purdy!
