About Scrappy Doo

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 06-166
  • Housetrained: Yes
Woo Hoo -- I'm Scrappy Doo! I'm a 12-year old, tiny, miniature ball of American Eskimo fluff. I was surrendered to Detroit animal control and won the hearts of all the officers, vet techs and staff there! They got me up-to-date on all my shots and tested me for heartworms (I'm negative) and then they snipped something off that they told me I didn't need any more! They tried really hard to adopt me because they just thought I was the sweetest, cutest little guy. But no one came for me -- adopters didn't know that Eskies can live to a ripe ole' age and I'm as energetic and spry as a youngster!

When my rescuer brought me to my foster mom, they both just smiled and giggled when they looked at me. They couldn't believe I'm such a cutie pie and that I'm twelve years old - I certainly don't look it! I'm a real sweet fella who likes to give eskie kisses. Well that was a bit of a problem at first because my teeth had never been cleaned! My foster mom made an appointment for me to go to the doggie dentist for cleaning and a few extractions and soon I'll be sporting a bright white beautiful smile to match the rest of me! Then my eskie kisses will smell as good as they make you feel!

I'm recently neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I've just been groomed -- don't I look handsome? I get along with dogs and cats and I have no fear or aggression issues. I'm a real, lovable, sweet dog!

I'm very good in the car and I love to go for car rides! I'm also excellent on a leash -- my favorite part of the day is when my foster mom takes me on her two mile hike every day! I'd really love it if my future humans like to do daily walks or exercise. I'm very food motivated and you might wonder why I'm a mini-mini but I weigh 18 lbs -- most of it is in my little tummy! I have a really "puppy" shape to me, so exercise really helps me fight the "battle of the bulge" :o)

I'm housetrained, but since I was in a shelter for a little while my potty lessons will need to be reinforced with regular visits outside and a consistent feeding schedule. My foster mom puts a "belly band" around me when I'm not supervised so I don't have any accidents and I'm getting better at staying 'dry'. My recent "snip-snip" operation should help with this. For the first few weeks in my forever home, I should be supervised and pet-gated, diapered or kept in a carpet-free room when you're not at home, at least until I've had a chance to settle in.

I'm a sweet, lovable guy who would love to find a forever family. If that's you, please hurry up and fill out an adoption application for me! I'm eligible to be adopted for a lower fee through Eskie Rescuers United's "New Leash on Life" Senior program. (To find out more about this program, please go to: Senior Eskies and Senior Humans.)

Please contact Deborah at: deborah@eskierescuers.org for more information on me.

You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuers.org and fill out an adoption application for me!

There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Grand Rapids, MI with my foster mommy, Gale.

To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you).

Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Thank you and WOOF!
