About Baloo Bear!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 04-018
  • Housetrained: Yes
Hi, my name is Baloo Bear! (I was named after the character in Jungle Book and my foster mommy says I'm just like that Baloo-easy going and friendly.) I'm a 5-year old standard-sized American Eskimo boy who weighs in at 48 pounds! I know that's very overweight for an Eskie, so I'm on a mostly vegetable diet right now. But I still think I'm a lap dog, and my foster mommy is so sweet that she indulges me in that respect! :o)

I'm neutered, current on all my shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention, as well as on flea and tick prevention. I'm kennel trained and almost completely housebroken (we're working very hard on that and my foster mommy says I'm doing very well!).

I LOVE children (especially my foster mommy's little granddaughter), but my size could intimidate young kids who aren't used to dogs as big as me. I have a really gruff bark that might also be a little scary, but I'm not trying to scare anyone-honest!! I don't have a mean bone in my oversized body-it's just that my voice is as big as I am! I'm pretty submissive to my foster mommy's other dogs, although I get along just great with them! We don't know how I'd be around cats, because we don't have any here.

I always come when I'm called, because I'm VERY smart and catch on quickly. I generally mind what I'm told, and I definitely know the meaning of the word NO! I'm just a really big boy who tends to bump into stuff because I'm not used to being in the house. (I was chained up in someone's backyard when I was rescued!) But I already understand air conditioning (it feels so wonderful to me after what I endured in my previous life)! All I want is for someone to love me, because nobody ever paid any attention to me before. :o( I need a family that will devote time and attention and LOTS of love to me, as well as be strict with my diet until I get down to an acceptable weight. Will that be you? Because once you adopt me I will devote my entire self to you-I promise! I'm a sweet stuffed teddy bear kind of dog who will make a wonderful companion to you and your family!

If you're interested in me, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad" if I'm not local to you. This is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain distance to get me to you! I'm in Jefferson City, TN with my foster mommy, Jane. If you would like to know more about me, please send an e-mail right away!

Please contact Liz at: liz@eskierescuers.org for more information on me!

You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuers.org and fill out an adoption application for me!

Thank you and WOOF!

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
